IllustrationsEven before my fingers were separated by plastic surgery, I remember my childhood efforts in the arts: Roman battles, dogfights in the air; cartoons and faces of the macabre held special significance for me. As the years passed I realized that along with an unusual sense of humor and my artistic ability I was able to create characters and visual images from written scenarios. Hence, later on I became a professional Commercial Artist. Throughout my advertising career both locally and abroad, I have illustrated many children's books and mascot characters for different products. One example of such a mascot is "Kentucky Jo-Jo" for Kentucky Fried Chicken, which really began as a parrot mascot. I did this character for an extremely successful "Wonderful Wonderland" expo held in our Jean Pierre stadium in the late 80s. In spite of its success Kentucky Jo-Jo was eventually scrapped when it was realized that this parrot was supposed to be a "Chicken Hawk". The two books featured "Uni an historical fantasy" and "Laila - the tale of Survival of a Trini pothound" are two examples of my more recent efforts. During the 1980s as part of my advertising experience I won a contract over one of the most reputable Advertising agencies in the Country to create a series of coconut family characters - a newspaper clipping and samples of this family which are shown below.
